Dear valued customers:
2007 has been a milestone year for Central. Celebrating our 60th anniversary, we took a nostalgic look back at our origins, revisiting all those happy Central moments from our past which together form the mosaic of our corporate identity, as well as the lives of our customers. Some may recall their first taste of soft-serve ice-cream when it debuted at our store, while others may reminisce about the time true love found them while pursing our aisles. Despite the many challenges we have all faced individually and as a nation, it has been these serendipitous moments of happiness which have made it all worthwhile.
Ever-mindful that because of you, we are here, we spent more than a year in preparing our 60th anniversary celebrations. Not satisfied with merely offering the discounts, gifts and incentives our customers have come to expect, Central created a year-long suite of activities, performances, broadcast media and special events that blend culture, beauty, artistic expression and intellectual inspiration into every visit to our store. This is how we say “Thank You”, the Central way.
Bringing culture and beauty to the anniversary celebrations, this year’s Central Chidlom floral display exhibition was the most spectacular of the show’s 14-year run. Vividly colorful and fragrant flower arrangements filled every corner, transforming our flagship store into a garden of shopping paradise.
And amid this fragrant wonderland of blooms was a unique retrospective entitled Central 60th Anniversary— Road To Success Exhibition. Visitors to this richly detailed and comprehensive multimedia installation were invited to stroll through its five zones highlighting landmark Central events against a backdrop of contemporaneous Thai and world history.
2007 is also a significant year for Thailand’s beloved monarch. The entire nation will soon join together in offering their best wishes on the occasion of the 80th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumipol. It is just this kind of national unity that His Majesty has tirelessly advocated throughout his reign, and which our country is in such urgent need during these trying times. It is my sincere hope that what will certainly be an outpouring of affection and admiration during forthcoming royal birthday celebrations, will be the catalyst that draws together Thai people of all beliefs, ethnicities and political persuasions. This, I believe, more than anything else would make the finest birthday gift any nation could give to their king.
Many Central staff members expressed their love of king and country in a more personal manner, by taking part in the annual Red Cross/Central blood drive, raising over 6 million cc. of blood. I was particularly impressed with the selfless generosity and concern for society exhibited by our employees, and offer the highest praise for their participation in this essential public health campaign.
In closing, we would like to express our deepest thanks and appreciation for making us what we are today. For six decades, you have been with us through thick and thin, your loyal patronage breathing life into the very soul of Central. We wish you and your family a new year full of hope, health and prosperity.
